Energy Performance Certificates in the UK
Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) have been introduced to help improve the energy efficiency of buildings. If you are buying or selling a Commercial or Domestic property (that falls within this criteria), you now need a certificate by law. Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) became compulsory in October 2008 for new builds, as well as for buildings which are sold or rented.
The Energy Performance Certificate provides 'A' to 'G' ratings for the building, with 'A' being the most energy efficient and 'G' being the least; currently the average rating is 'D'. Our accredited energy assessors produce EPCs together with a Recommendations Report which suggests improvements to make your building more energy efficient.
SBEM is a computer program that provides an analysis of a building's energy consumption. It achieves this by calculating the monthly energy use and carbon dioxide emissions of the building, given a description of the building geometry, construction, useage, heating, ventilation, air conditioning and lighting.
SBEM makes use of standard data contained on associated databases and available with other software. The purpose of SBEM and its interface iSBEM, is to produce consistent and reliable evaluations of energy use in non-domestic buildings for Building Regulations Compliance and for Building Energy Performance Certification purposes.
RdSAP (Reduced data Standard Assessment Procedure) is the Government's approved standardised system for undertaking an energy survey and producing an energy rating in the form of an Energy Performance Certificate on an existing domestic dwelling.
